As you learn more about his past and the truth behind Wellington Wells, the plot starts to grow thicker as now you’re somewhat of an enemy to the ‘Wellies’, who wear happy faces to symbolize joy and well being. but for the sake of not spoiling too much we’ll stick with Arthur as he’s the first character you begin with in the game. In this epic first person action-adventure game you play the role of three characters, all of whom have their own unique story plot. The Germans invade Great Britain and gain control of the British Empire, while still raging war across much of Europe. The game’s universe is situated within an alternate timeline in which the events that took place during World War II, such as the Final Solution, happened earlier but still come with some very severe consequences for both the Nazis and Jews.
WE HAPPY FEW RELEASE DATE CHANGE SERIES
Of course this perspective is quite subjective and may differ for others who pick up and play, but We Happy Few certainly takes inspiration from the series when it comes to overall gameplay and direction.
When we turned on We Happy Few, the first thing that popped up into our minds was Bioshock, but with a more 60’s style to it and a lot more satire. Anyone who loves a great story paired with exceptional voice acting and tactful humor will most definitely find We Happy Few to surely make you a very happy person indeed. We Happy Few takes place in the psychedelic 60’s era in Britain, where the over-usage of a specific narcotic called “joy” has tampered with the minds of the people, leaving them in a state of euphoria and completely robbing them of the reality that’s happening. What does this have in common with We Happy Few? Well, the name of the game speaks for itself as you find yourself in a world that’s tormented and broken, as you embark on a journey to not only save a loved one but to help society cope with its problems. Now of course this doesn’t apply everywhere in the world, but it’s certainly come to a point where people expect more out of you than before, which can put a lot of unnecessary tension on the mind. Next month will be the one year anniversary. As many of us already know, we live in a very results-driven society and so, if your performance somehow dwindles ever so slightly, you get reprimanded for it. There’s no final release date yet, but it was meant to be in Early Access for somewhere between six months and a year. The Birdwatcher playstyle, for instance, lets you explore and quest without worrying about getting thirsty or starving to death.
WE HAPPY FEW RELEASE DATE CHANGE UPDATE
The last big update was back in March and introduced a new island, along with more playstyle choices. Alec had a similar reaction to the game last year, though updates since then do seem to have improved things like AI behaviour, navigation and quests. It’s been a long time since I took a trip through Wellington Wells, but I recall loving the setting and being less than enthused by what I had to do there. By moving to only one final major update, we can merge the Early Access and the story builds earlier, so that we can concentrate all of our efforts on making the story the best it can be. The Parade District, in particular, is intertwined so heavily with the story that we don’t think we can deliver a good “Early Access” version, unlike the other biomes. So far, the content has been able to coexist side by side, but as we add polish and really lace everything together, but this is changing.

The Early Access build is currently separate to the story build they share a code base, but the content is slightly different. Compulsion Games explained their decision in a post on Steam.Įarly Access is amazing, but it’s becoming very complicated to maintain both a regular update schedule and lock down the story. We Happy Few’s Joy update will launch at the slightly later date of mid-August, but the Parade District will be held back until the final release. But as anyone who has had to flee from the overzealous police officers of Wellington Wells knows, plans sometimes need to change. The original plan included two future updates: the Joy update, and then a later one that would introduce the new Parade District.
Now there’s only going to be one more before launch. As We Happy Few marches towards release, Compulsion Games have decided to reconsider the future of the dystopian survival game’s Early Access updates.
